Dreams DO Come True!

At long long last my cousin Amy and I got to live out our dream of attending a New Kids on the Block concert!!! :) There had been rumblings on and off over the years of a reunion tour for the guys. I never thought it would really happen despite how much I dearly hoped for it! Earlier this year, the rumblings started getting stronger and louder, and I started to really get my hopes up. Well, at long last, the rumors became fact and the boys announced on the Today show that they were indeed reuniting, putting out an album and GOING ON TOUR!!!

Fast forward to June where I am anxiously awaiting the announcement for a Seattle tour date. I KNEW I would be going. I didn't know who it would be with (B wasn't too keen on accompanying me) or when it would be, but no matter what, I wasn't going to miss out on this opportunity! Fortunately, I didn't have to wait too long before a date in Seattle (well, Tacoma) was confirmed and I jumped online to buy two tickets. I scored pretty good seats and happily settled in for the long wait to November 22nd. :)

My cousin Amy tried real hard to get tickets for the Chicago shows, but the fates conspired against her and the shows sold out before she could get tickets. It got me to thinking, and we managed to successfully arrange for her to come out here to Seattle and see the show together! WOOOO!!!!! 18 long years later and we were finally going to see our boys live in concert!

Amy arrived Friday night and we fell right back into old habits and stayed up into the wee hours talking, laughing and just generally catching up on each other's lives. Of course there was the requisite analysis of OMG WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR which we fortunatley figured out without too much wasted time or effort.

On Saturday we luxuriated in sleeping late and indulged ourselves in vintage NKOTB videos before getting ready for the show. We stopped for a nice dinner on the way to Tacoma, and before we knew it we were pulling into the parking lot of the Tacoma Dome!!!

Our excitement level was growing ever higher the closer we got. Once inside, we marveled/gawked at the hordes of other women around us - many decked out in vintange New Kids gear and other assorted 80s paraphelelia. That crowd sure made for great people watching!

We eventually made our way to our seats and were pretty pleased with the proximity to the stage. :D We impatiently waited thru two opening acts - Lady Ga Ga and Natasha Bedingfield. The former was defintiely, um, interesting and I suppose you could classify her as entertaining. Natasha put on a more "normal" performance and kept it short and sweet.

Finally...the moment we were waiting (18 years) for was nearly upon us!!!!! The lights went down, the music kicked on and our boys took the stage! The screams from the crowd were nearly deafening! Amy and I screamed along with everyone else, and we were jumping up and down while holding on to each other.

The show was AMAZING! The guys looked genuinely happy to be back together and performing again - even Jonathan! The had a great mix of old and new tunes, and damn - they were FIT! Jordan clearly still has his 21 year old bod as evidenced in his dream fulfulling performance of "Baby I Believe in You." I'd only seen this performance on TV and seeing it in person was to die for! I felt like I was 13 all over again! His white shirt completely unbuttoned billowing open in front of a fan as he stood onstage behind his mic groovin' and singing. *sigh* The rest of the dance moves were well choreographed and mixed in just enough of the old stuff without cheesing it up. I still can't believe how good Danny looked! We used to make endless fun of him for looking like a monkey boy, but he's finally grown into his looks! And at 40 years old and still break dancing - not bad!

I got to hear and see them perform so much music that I'd never thought I'd experience. "If You Go Away," "Valentine Girl," "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," "The Right Stuff," "Hangin' Tough," "Tonight," "Step by Step," "Please Don't Go Girl," "Didn't I Blow Your Mind" and many many more. I think it'd be safe to say that Amy and I were both in heaven. :D During "Hangin' Tough" I looked out across the crowd and was awed to see the whole stadium waving their arms in the air (like they just don't care - hee!). I don't know what it was, but it was just so neat to see! I am so very happy that I was able to share such a fun and incredible experience with Amy. It would not have been the same to have seen them without her! The only thing missing was having Summer there with us!!!

Sunday made for a nice recovery day. We slept in (well, Amy did. Caiden had other plans for me. :) ) and headed out for our scheduled afternoon massages. What a fabulous way to recover from our fun night out! Afterwards, we headed down into Seattle to enjoy the gorgeous weather and wander around Pike Place Market which included a visit to the original Starbucks. Amy is trying out a new experiement - order something completely random and see if the baristas can make it. I keep telling her she should blog about this!

All too quickly, the weekend came to a close, and Amy was headed back to the airport. Despite it being short the weekend was totally awesome. Defintely one to go down in the memory book!!

I normally enjoy hearing about things that our heroine does and finds interesting. But I have to admit that when I got to the paragraph using the word "FIT", I had to stop reading. ;)
