I was poking around the interwebs to get some info on the teams in the Superbowl this year. Specifically, I need to know the team colors for an idea that I have. I know that the Steelers and Cardinals are playing this year, and I have a vague idea about yellow and black being Steelers colors and crimson being one of the colors for the Cardinals. But I just wanted to make SURE, ya know?
So I search on "superbowl 43" and some variations thereof and keep getting redirected here. Go ahead, check it out. I'll wait right here.

Notice anything, oh say, MISSING? They have made it about as clear as mud as to which teams are playing in the Superbowl! If your page is ALL ABOUT THE SUPERBOWL, I should think that the teams playing would at least get a headline! Or maybe a graphic of some sort right at the top of the page! What gives?
Now don't get me wrong, Mr. NFL.com, I get that this site is geared toward football fans. And most football fans know without a doubt who is playing in the Superbowl. But still, you are going to get people like me finding your website thru Google searches and the like. It would have been considerate of you to think about all the other traffic you are likely going to receive (diehards and noobs alike) and maybe make it a little bit more obvious about WHO is playing in the 'bowl this year.
All I could find was a little box on the lower right hand section of the page (considerably below the fold) called "Offical Team Sites" that shows a picture of each team's helmet and links off to the team's site. That's it.
My assessment? FAIL

10 Honest Things
I was tagged by Summer on this. Here goes:
1. I am a blog stalker. I think it is really interesting to read about what is going on in other people's lives. Even if I don't know them or don't know them very well. Maybe I'm reading YOUR blog! Mwa ha ha!!! ;)
2. Along the lines of the above, I am obsessed with catching glimpses of how other people live - glancing into open garages or windows as we drive by. I would love to be a fly on the wall sometimes.
3. I want to learn how to do my own French manicure, so that I can stop paying someone else to paint my nails only to have them chip less than 24 hours later.
4. I have my own company.
5. I think I have mild claustophobia. I didn't used to. But things like caves with low ceilings really freak me out. I also hate breathing stale or warm air - I need fresh circulating air. But I'm ok in elevators and the like. I know. Weird.
6. Some nights I want to just sit and watch Caiden sleep. I want to see how he gets into the crazy postions I find him in when I go and check on him.
7. I can't fall asleep if I can hear someone snoring. I become fixated on the sound and can't block it out.
8. My cat has started randomly yowling during the night. I have to go get him and bring him to bed to get him to stop.
9. I have a weird habit of feeding other people shots/drinks, but I barely drink myself.
10. I am a great listener. But I don't always share my problems/thoughts unless I am super comfortable with you. This often leads to people who know me well thinking of me as open and outgoing, but people that don't know me as well think of me as quiet and a little reserved. And people who really REALLY know me think I'm crazy. Kidding! They know I can be a little of both and maybe just a little crazy. And I'm ok with that. :)

All Good Things
...must come to an end.
I got the official word last week that my contract with the company I am working for will come to an end on Feb 6th. I have mixed feelings about it, but overall I think I am more relieved than anything else. These last few weeks I've been feeling particularly stressed out because it feels like I don't have ANY time to myself during the week. And it's started to drive me more than a little crazy. So I am really looking forward to getting that time back to myself during the week and tackling some projects that have been on my to do list for way too long. I will miss having the income coming in the door, but there is another potential opportunity to do some more search consulting work with another friend's company. Hopefully we can work something out that will still give me my time but allow me to keep doing some work on the side! Time to get Snowflake Media up and running! :D

Birthday Fun
I always love it when my birthday coincides with MLK day. Makes me feel like my bday is a holiday. :D
I really enjoyed my bday this year as it was made extra special since B had the day off too! The day started with a yummy bday breakfast of strawberry waffles.
We decided to still have our nanny come in during her regularly scheduled time and we took off for a nice lunch at Maggiano's followed by a screening of Marley and Me. Loved the movie - definitely bring some Kleenex if you go see it!
For dinner we picked up a yummy Delfino's stuffed Chicago style pizza and enjoyed ice cream birthday cake from Cold Stone Creamery.
My family and friends spoiled me with many lovely gifts and birthday wishes! One of the highlights (from B) was my new Le Creuset cookware. Cooking will never be the same again - I can't believe I ever cooked without these pans!!
All in all, it was an exceptionally lovely day!

Another First!
It has finally arrived! Caiden's first tooth made its appearance sometime on Thursday, Jan 22nd. I've been keeping an eye out for this toofer, and my patience was finally rewarded! I noticed his bottom gum line looked a little different. I stuck my finger in to verify and sure enough - there was his first tooth poking thru! Yay Caiden!

I Don't Know Another Way to Break it to Ya...
but one of our cats is just downright dumb. Care to make any guesses as to which furry feline I am speaking of?
Well, if you guessed Crisco (formerly known as Cailean), then you would be right! Now don't get me wrong, I love this cat with all my heart. I picked him out when he was just a few weeks old and still think he is just the sweetest thing. But sadly, while he was overly blessed in the girth department, the brains are a little lacking.
Here's the background story on what sealed the deal for me on this observation.
So when Sienna (our other more "street wise" kitty) is hungry, she let's you know. And I mean that in every sense of the word. She doesn't just meow at you. She yammers. She whines. She begs. She falls down on the floor rolling around dramatically meowing over the fact that she is just SO hungry. Fortunately, if you ignore her long enough, she'll eventually give up and leave you alone (many hours later). Crisco, on the other hand, just follows you around. And around and around and around. He can be THE most underfoot kitty ever. If he even thinks you might be headed towards anything that resembles his kibble, he musters up his fat rolls to somehow propel him ahead of you in an effort to help guide you to his dish. When he realizes this is not your intention, he tries his hardest to guide you there. At first you think it's blind affection with the way he rubs up against your legs all LOVE ME! And then when you sit down, he reaches up and taps your lap with his paw as if he wants to join you on your lap. But nooooo. All he wants is to be FED. And he will NOT LEAVE YOU ALONE. It's a different form of begging altogether.
But Sienna, see, she's lived on the streets for part of her life, and she's no dumb kitty. She knows how to get to food if there is food to be had. While Crisco is trying his best to convince you to get up and give him some kibble already, Sienna is crafitly figuring out how to get to the food that is in fact already there. And for your viewing pleasure, I have caught this clever kitty in the very act of foraging for kibble.

Every time I think about "incorporating," the theme song to Laverne and Shirley pops into my head. So I thought I'd curse you with it too. ;)
But yes! Seriously! B and I have formed our own company! We are going to be doing business under the moniker Snowflake Media LLC. Yes, of course there will be a website, but we've had some other things keeping us busy, so don't go huntin' down the interwebs for our elusive site just yet. You will definitely be in the know once it is officially launched!
I thought that with the contract work I'm doing, it would probably be a good idea to protect our assets. So we've incorporated as an LLC, and I just got the official paperwork yesterday. WOO HOO! For my part, I will be a search engine marketing consultant, and B will take care of any website work that may come our way.

The real news is that we are moving back to Chicago!!! I don't know when just yet - it all hinges on when we can sell/rent the house. Keep your fingers crossed that it happens sooner than later!!

Christmas the Finale
Our 3rd and final Christmas celebration was at my mom's house on New Year's day. We totally lucked out and were able to celebrate with the whole family as everyone was available to come back (well, except for those crazy Beckers living out in AZ! :P ). We did some fun new things this year!
First we had some fun getting various family members entangled in the rope game. I wish I took some video footage as we were all laughing our butts off watching various folks trying to wrangle their way out of the puzzle. Nikki and Alyssa were particularly fun to watch! :) Here's a picture of Dave and Bryan trying to figure out what to do.
After a yummy sit down dinner, we trooped downstairs to exchange our silly stockings. B and I shared our little tradition with the rest of the fam. We each had one person to shop for and could only spend $15. The idea was to have fun and get creative with the stocking stuffers. I think it was a pretty good sucess and everyone seemed to enjoy both shopping for their stocking person and opening up their various gifts! There were definitely some clever and inspired stockings! :)
Our next fun new game was a white elephant exchange with a twist - you had to don a santa hat, jacket and gloves, pick a gift and open it all before someone rolled doubles. And the dice were continuously being rolled. There were plenty of laughs and excitement as people would jump up, hurry and try to get dressed and pick out their present! I hope we can play this game again next year!

I should also mention, that B and I lucked out had Grandma available to babysit for us for NYE!! WHEEEE!!! We celebrated by going to see 7 Pounds - wow - bring Kleenex if you go see this one! It was very sad and touching and probably not the best choice for a festive night out, but I'm really glad we got to see it. Afterward, we went to dinner at one of our very favorite restaurants - Francesca's Campagna in West Dundee. They had a very festive atmosphere with tons of silver, black, gold and white balloons floating about. I enjoyed my signature Chocolate martini (which I've also dubbed the $100 martini), the delicious bruchette and my perennial favorite - pollo arosto. I was in heaven! We pretty much closed down the restaurant, so I asked if we could take home a few balloons for Caiden. They sent us home with about a dozen and both Caiden and Jerry had tons of fun playing with them!

Christmas the 2nd
So we basically got to celebrate Christmas 3 times this year! Christmas the 2nd occurred on Dec 27th at the Ducheks'. Rusti prepared a delicious dinner for us all to feast on, and it wasn't long before the presents started calling out to us for opening! Caiden totally made out like a bandit and was particularly enamored by the cute little train that played music, ran in circles and popped out little balls.
We also had a great time hanging out with the whole family and Caiden's great-grandparents got in some extra special quality time with the little guy.

X-Side!!!!
Fortunately with our challenges in getting out to Chicago, we were still able to make it out to see one of my all time favorite bands - X-Side!! It was a particularly special show, because while we used to go see them nearly every weekend back in the day, they guys don't get together and play as frequently anymore. Lucky for us, they're gonna be playing once a month or so, so maybe on another trip back we'll get to go see them again!
I had an AWESOME time at the show! It was fun seeing Danny, Roy and Jeff again and seeing recognition dawn on their faces when they spotted me dancing by the stage. I think it probably helped that I donned my X-Side jersey for the show! :D
We very nearly didn't make it out to see them as Caiden was really fighting against going to sleep. I was so grateful to Rusti and Larry for stepping in to take over the bedtime fight and allowing us a few hours off to have some fun! We also met up with Rob for the show and had a great time hanging out with him and hearing about his adventures in Chicago and Ohio!
One of the gifts B got me for Christmas is this totally rad video camera that is about the size and shape of a classic iPod. You can have it out and recording within 5 seconds and it takes really really great video! Of course I brought it along to the show and captured some video of the band.

Christmas in Seattle
I never thought I'd actually be spending a Christmas in Seattle and having a white Christmas at that! It just goes to show that you can never really know what you'll be doing at a given time. :) Surprisingly, Christmas morning actually got off to a rough start. Caiden woke up early and crabby, which made me crabby, and I couldn't wait for him to nap so that I could nap and we could just start the day all over. A couple hours later I nudge Brian awake to ask him what this annoying chirping sound was that I kept hearing from downstairs. He goes to investigate and comes up a couple minutes later asking me if I noticed anything unusual. I look up and see the ceiling fan is turned off. And the baby monitor is off. And the clock is off. And HOLY CRAP WE LOST POWER. ARGH!!!! Needless to say, my mood worsened considerably as I began cursing out the state of WA. Apparently the heavy wet snow that was mercilessly falling brought down some power lines somewhere. The electric company told me they didn't have an estimate because with the treacherous roads, it was taking crews quite awhile to get out and assess the damaged areas. I suddenly had visions of being without power for days on end like what happened back in '06. How were we going to have Christmas brunch? Christmas dinner? I was having a real rough time of it.
Caiden woke up after a little while and after I finished nursing him, I was getting ready to bring him down to B so that I could go back upstairs and sulk. Well, I cannot tell you how elated I was when suddenly the fan started going, lights turned on and the whir of electronic items resumed their symphony. I was literally rejoicing at the restoration of our electricity! My mood immediately brightened and I felt like Christmas day could officially begin. I know that I should have been focusing on being thankful for at least having a roof over our heads, being in our own home and not stuck in some random airport, and the means to get somewhere for food if we needed to. There were plenty of people who didn't have access to such creature comforts. But I allowed my self pity to take over and wallowed in my anger and frustration over how the day was starting out. I think that part of the reason my mood turned around so quickly was because I did start to realize those things. So instead I resolved to get over it and move on. Be happy with who I am with and what we have. So with that, Caiden and I headed downstairs to find B and start our Christmas!
We had a great time opening gifts, playing with new toys and just enjoying being at home. I finally could enjoy the snow as I relaxed and just took it all in.
And for dinner we enjoyed pomegranate glazed Cornish hens with candied sweet potatoes and acorn squash filled with flavored cous cous. Homemade molten chocolate caramel truffles topped of a delicious dinner.
And of course I took tons of video footage of Caiden opening all of his Christmas presents, but I didn't think anyone would want to sit thru 50 min of video. :P So instead, I condensed it all down into a 5 min clip. Hope you enjoy it! I had fun putting it together!!

Caiden's First Sleigh Ride
So we put forth some serious effort to turn our lemons into lemonade the week we were stuck here in WA due to the weather. A generous neighbor loaned us his child's sled, and we took Caiden for his very first sleigh ride!

Blog Spurts
I find that I tend to blog in fits and spurts. I think more than anything else, it's a factor of having available time. I have so much I want to share whether it is thru writing or photos or videos that when I miss one or two days (or weeks) I am suddenly so far behind I just procrastinate even worse! These last few weeks were a prime example. I KNEW what I wanted to post about, but I had to put in some serious time to get the media elements ready. This time around it was my first couple of stabs at editing video together. I should know how to do this, because after all, it IS what I studied in college. But I was never all that great at the whole video editing bit - I enjoyed either directing or being in front of the camera. Ack - getting off topic here.
Anywho, I started one video project before we left for Chicago for our belated holidays. Naturally, I didn't have time to write while back home and then when we got back last week, time just cruised on by with nary a glance back. I was so tired by Thursday night that I went to bed at 8:30. Yes, you read right: 8:30!! There was not a peep from Caiden nor I until after 8am Friday morning. But I felt SO REFRESHED! It's probably a large reason why I am still awake right now and not yawning my head off.
But I digress...I managed to get the video projects done tonight, and I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. YAY! Now I can focus on writing about what's gone on these last few weeks. So once again there will be a flury of posts going up over the next week or so. I was so tired by Thursday night that I went to bed at 8:30. Yes, you read right: 8:30!! There was not a peep from Caiden nor I until after 8am Friday morning. But I felt SO REFRESHED! It's probably a large reason why I am still awake right now and not yawning my head off.
But I digress...I managed to get the video projects done tonight, and I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. YAY! Now I can focus on writing about what's gone on these last few weeks. So once again there will be a flury of posts going up over the next week or so. 1st Post o' the New Year!
Yes...it's been awhile, I know! It's taken quite a bit longer than I expected to catch up (and I'm STILL catching up) from the holidays, and I have many blog entries to queue up and get loaded. I didn't want to keep waiting tho, so I thought you might enjoy seeing some video of Caiden's first proper meal. He shared our dinner with us tonight - Beef Brisket. Yum!!!
