The Gorge = WOW

Moving on....here's some more of what we've been keeping busy with.

On Saturday, we packed up a picnic lunch and took off for a trip to the other side of the mountains to go see John Mayer play at the Gorge. The day could not have been more perfect for a 150 mile roadtrip in the convertible to Central WA. Once we got over to the other side of the pass it started warming up quite a bit. About an hour in and it was 90+ degrees outside! I've forgotten what that kind of summer heat feels like. We stopped along the way at a very pretty rest area and had our picnic lunch. First time in 3+years we got to use that basket!!

Once we crossed the Columbia River, the view just kept getting more and more breathtaking. We stopped at the Wild Horses monument (about 12 miles away from the concert venue) to take a look around. Holy cow. The pictures simply do not do it justice. The view was simply stunning.

View from the "scenic viewpoint" (that's I-90 crossing the river)

I so wish I brought my camera in to the venue - I could NOT get over how amazing the setting was! I've never seen anything like it before!! Here are some pictures from the website.

You can look straight thru the back of the stage and see the river cutting thru the valley. And the sun set right behind the stage turning the sky an amazing pinky hue.

As for the show itself, it was pretty amazing. We had awesome seats and finally seeing John Mayer in concert was so cool! Can you believe the guy changed guitars between every song? I think my favorite part of the show was where he did a 4 song acoustic set.

Here are the rest of the photos from Saturday.

On Sunday we took advantage of the continuing glorious weather and went to Juanita Beach in Kirkland. It was so nice to just chill out by the water (and use our picnic basket for a 2nd time!!) and relax. I felt very "urban sophisticate" cuz in Chicago, the only real beach time you can get is by going into the actual city and hitting up North Beach or something similar. All the city dwellers have the same thing in mind cuz they usually don't have a patch of green or sand to hang out on like you might in the 'burbs. Hard to describe, but I felt it fully.

Fast forwarding to Wednesday took us to the much coveted Police show!! It was really pretty darn cool to see a band play that hasn't been around for 25 years! The other nice thing is not having to suffer thru the crappier new music, cuz hey - 25 years!! We had great seats for a great price for this show as well thanks to Event Tix alias at MS.

That brings us up to this past weekend which was pretty quiet. Ran some errands, saw PotC 3 (thumbs down I'm sad to report), and made do with some good old fashioned laziness.

This upcoming weekend promises the Solstice Parade in Fremont and some long-awaited strawberry picking!!!
