Ezra At 7 Months - Our Super Smiler!

My goodness, Ezra is 7 months old today! I feel like this last month went by a little quicker than usual for some reason. Maybe it was the sickness induced fog 3/4 of our household was immersed in for a majority of the month! With Spring's arrival, I hope we see much less of these nasty runny noses, coughs and ear infections!

I don't have official stats to report, but I can tell you that this boy is continuing to grow like a weed! He is very comfortable in size 9 month clothes, and I'm sure it won't be long before some of the 12 month stuff starts to fit him!

He continues to be one of the most smiley babies on the planet which brings smiles to my face every day. :) He is so easy to be around and such a happy little guy. I hope his personality stays this way for a good long time!

All right - let's move on to the highlights!
  • Probably the biggest one is starting to eat solids. So far he only has dinner, and he hasn't tried too much yet. Two favorites are sweet potatoes (he absolutely devours these!) and avocado. The avocado was the very first food he tried. We've also given him rice cereal and pears, neither of which he enjoys very much. It's hilarious to see him screw up his face in distaste as he tries to comprehend a new flavor. You'd think I'd given him a huge spoonful of lemon juice judging by his reaction! LOL! He tends to get fairly serious at mealtime, and he isn't too crazy about eating yet. With the exception of sweet potatoes, you really have to cajole him into eating. He also really does not like his water. I learned early on that he does better if it is warm, but it is still a fight to get him to take a sip or two. I will be introducing breakfast in the next few days.

  • He is also a big fan of his exersaucer. He will happily spend a good half hour playing with the various toys, and he loves to gnaw on the squishy elephant. Even tho he is generally happy in it, I do try and limit his time there in favor of working on sitting up and increased tummy time.

  • Speaking of tummy time, that is still a hit or miss. He's temporarily abandoned rolling from tummy to back, and sometimes he vehemently protests being placed on his belly. He has gotten super close to rolling on from his back to his tummy tho. He gets about 3/4 of the way there and then just rolls back to where he was. I'm pretty sure he'll be rolling around a lot more real soon!

  • He's getting a lot of practice in at sitting up. He does real good while in a lap, and I can tell his balance is improving when recovering from leaning side to side or leaning forwards. He still is very prone to tipping backwards tho. Sometimes he can slowly get himself from sitting to a side lean that rolls him onto his tummy. He usually seems surprised to find himself there, but he is often focused enough on a toy to not mind being on his belly. With the better sitting skills, he is also riding in the front of the shopping cart and his stroller. Yay!
  • We have also officially retired the bucket seat in favor of a big boy car seat! Woo hoo! He seems to like it well enough and I LOVE the ease of getting him in and out of it. The bucket was in the middle of the backseat and wedged up right against Caiden's seat. Now Ezra is behind the passenger seat which makes things a lot easier all around.
  • As I referenced earlier, this has been a bad month for illnesses in our house. I had a nasty week and a half long cold. Caiden had a series of runny noses and coughs and poor Ezra did not escape unscathed. He wound up with a second ear infection, and after that he had a one day fever that just made him miserable. I felt so sad for him. All he wanted was to be held, and I could tell he just felt awful. I took him to the doctor where they confirmed the fever, and told us to just keep an eye and treat as necessary. I was so happy when the fever broke sometime in the night and he was back to his happy self the following day! I hope he isn't developing a 3rd ear infection right now tho. He's got another cough and runny nose. Keeping my fingers crossed he gets better soon!
  • Oddly enough, when he was sick, he actually had better overnight sleep! The night of his fever, he slept 13 hours straight!! And yes, I repeatedly checked on him to make sure he was ok!! He slept thru the night 4 times this month all within the same week. I had really hoped he was on track to more consistent sleep, but the last few nights have not been so good. He's also been really struggling with his naps. These last few days in particular he has really resisted his morning nap, and last night bedtime was quite the battle. Fortunately Aunt Karla was able to soothe him to sleep.
  • We did our first family mini-vacation at the end of February and went to Great Wolf Lodge water park. Ezra eventually got used to the water and had some fun splashing in the pool. He slept really well in the hotel which was a huge relief!!
  • He still loves bath time and has recently learned to splash in the water (much to Daddy's dismay - LOL). I don't think we'll be able to do the kitchen sink baths for much longer.

  • He seems to really enjoy being read to and even looking at and holding books. He also tends to gnaw on his books. (And papers, magazines, etc.) What can I say, he's a voracious reader! ;)

  • Finally, Ezra had a great time playing and snuggling with his Aunt Karla and cousin Katie! This was their first time meeting Ezra in person and he spared no effort in the charm department! He was smiling and flirting with them at nearly every opportunity. :) Their visit was altogether too short, but it won't be long before we get to see them again. Yay!!

I think that about covers this last fabulous month. Here are the links to the updated photo archives for both Ezra and Caiden. I also created a photo book for Ezra's first 6 months. You can preview it here. Enjoy!
